Just a clarification for many of you who are unsure about the word inevitable. It means that an event was going to happen no matter what other events took place.

What role do you think the United States of America played in reunification?
I think the U.S. played a huge role in the reunification process because we did things like the Berlin Airlift to kind of help the Germans as well as make the communists a little angry.
Do you think German reunification was inevitable?
I don't think reunification was inevitable because sooner or later, the people of Germany on both sides would eventually become fed up with being a divided country.
Does this celebration remind you of any American celebrations?
This reminds me of the 4th of July mainly because both of these holidays represents the independence of a country.
What do you think it would be like to experience this celebration in Germany?
I think it would be an uforgettable experience to celebrate the independence for a country that was divided for so long.

Q: What role do you think the United States of America played in reunification?
A: I think that without the United States' help throughout the Cold War with things such as the Berlin Airlift and just the overall support from the United States, Germany would not have been unified as early as it was.

Q: Do you think German reunification was inevitable?
A: I believe that German reunification was inevitable eventually because a multitude of people began to change their views, but I feel that the United States helped to make this date much sooner as said above.

Q: Does this celebration remind you of any American celebrations?
A: This reminds me of the Fourth of July, Independence Day.

Q: What do you think it would be like to experience this celebration in Germany?
A: I believe that it would be very similar to celebrating Independence Day in the United States. I believe that there would be a very joyous mood throughout Germany. I would like to experience it for myself though in the future.

I am very glad the Two halfes of germany were united together with the falling of the wall. It was very good for all the people in germany. If I lived in germany i would be very happy because if you had family or close friends on the other side it would be hard to see them, but since the wall has been torn down and the sides are united it is possible.
I believe many countries encouraged the unting of germany because it would be like having two seperate countries being called one. They were completly different though. The countries helped very much with ideas of unifaction and would be like the holiday 4th of July. But in the US we broke free of Britain and in Germany they didnt break free of anyone except the communist government and joined together.

1. Without the presidents speaking to the people of Germany and having a firm belief that Germany should be unified, they may never have wanted to unify into one country again.

2. I believe that the unification was going to happen no matter what, you can't live peacefully and happily when you suddenly become split as a nation, it was bound to happen one way or another

3. Yes, July 4th, seeing as it's a celebration of being our own country, which is similar to Unity Day, where they celebrate being their own, complete (unified) nation... although they still really aren't too similar of holidays.

4. I think experiencing Unity day would have been an overwhelming feeling of joy, having a feeling that your own nation is no longer split over political matters that people may not have agreed with in the first place.

1 Our Government helped Chancellor Helmut Kohl to have a peaceful transition during the unification process. George H W Bush has met with Kohl many times to make sure that this happened.

2 Yes, eventually the country would break out in a civil war. Therefor, destroying the country.

3 Yes, independence day because like us defeating Britain they in a way defeated Russia.

4 I think that it would be not very different that ours
in America. there would probably be cookouts lots of flags.

Q: What role do you think the United States of America played in reunification?

A: I think the role that the United States played was the model of which Germany could base off of. The US was resolute during the Cold Wars as well.

Q: Do you think German reunification was inevitable?

A: Yes, eventually the people would rise up and rebel like the American colonists to get what they want.

Q: Does this celebration remind you of any American celebrations?

A: Yes, the forth of July. America split from their oppressors and received their freedom like Germany did on reunification day.

Q: What do you think it would be like to experience this celebration in Germany?

A: It would be patriotic, including fireworks and much flag waving. Since the reunification is fairly recent, people that were around when reunification originally happened would inform younger citizens how the glorious event came around.
